MTV is a music/general entertainment channel. It launched in the UK and the rest of Europe on 1 August 1987 as MTV Europe. On 1 July 1997 as part of a localization of MTV channels in Europe, MTV Networks Europe launched MTV UK & Ireland. In 2007 the channel was rebranded as MTV One. On 1 July 2009, MTV One was rebranded back to MTV, with six new idents created.

From 1 February 2011, Sky reclassified the main MTV channel from ‘Music’ to ‘Entertainment’ and consequently a promo was heavily trailed on all stations signposting the move to a different placement in the EPG.
